Mindfulness Activities at the Zen Center of Denver
“With an eye made quiet, by the power of harmony and the deep power of joy, we see into the life of things.” (Wordsworth)
Mindfulness training is a wonderful complement to formal Zen training and is also accessible to those who wish to deepen their appreciation of their life and ability to navigate its inevitable challenges, but do not wish to participate in Zen practice. The Zen Center of Denver hosts a number of options for Mindfulness Practice and most are open to the public. Two of the Zen Center Teachers have trained formally in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction as developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn. There is now a large body of evidence showing the benefits of mindfulness practice.
1. “Every Minute Zen” practice is available to all members working with any teacher of the Zen Center.
2. Mindfulness Mondays is an informal group which meets for mindfulness practices based in the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction program. It is open to the public, including those without any prior experience and meets in the upstairs Meditation hall from 7-8:30 pm on the first and third Mondays of each month. A donation of $10 is suggested.
3. Mindfulness morning retreats are held the first Sat morning of each month in 2013 (except in July and December), each will focus on a different theme and be taught by an experienced MBSR teacher from our community. The suggested donation is $45 for the morning ($25 for students or financial hardship). These programs are designed to support ongoing mindfulness practice in those who have already completed the basic 6-8 week MBSR course and are open to the public.
