New Year’s Eve Ceremony
Click the event for details and registration. Our events begin precisely on time, and doors will be locked five minutes before the event begins in order to foster an environment of supportive silence in the zendo (practice hall). Please plan to arrive at least ten minutes before the stated start time. Parking can be challenging in our neighborhood, so allow extra time for finding a parking space and walking to the center. Our daily sittings do not require advance registration, but do register in advance for special events such as introductory seminars, all-day sittings, workshops, and classes.
New Year’s Eve Ceremony
December 31 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
On December 31 from 7-10 PM we will gather to give our attention, personally and collectively, to the passing of one year and the beginning of another. During this evening of ceremony we will have zazen, kinhin lit by luminarias, a private letting go of things from the past year, readings of poetry or intentions for the new year, a noisy driving out demons procession, purification of the altars, prayers for all beings, and a celebratory social hour. Participants are asked to bring something they would like to release with the new year written on a piece of paper, as well as a poem, short reading or intention to share, a noise maker, food, treats and non-alcoholic beverage items. There will be no zoom for this event.
The sitting and ceremony will run from 7-9 p.m., followed by a social hour from 9-10 p.m. This event is in person only.
