Click the event for details and registration. Our events begin precisely on time, and doors will be locked five minutes before the event begins in order to foster an environment of supportive silence in the zendo (practice hall). Please plan to arrive at least ten minutes before the stated start time. Parking can be challenging in our neighborhood, so allow extra time for finding a parking space and walking to the center. Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes—dark, quiet colors are best. Out of care for those with allergies, please avoid perfume or scented products.

Our daily sittings do not require registration, but do register in advance for special events such as beginners’ nights, introductory seminars, all-day sittings, workshops, and classes.

If you have signed up but need to cancel on short notice, please call the office and leave a message.

Event Series: Zazen and Chanting

Zazen and Chanting

November 11, 2025 @ 7:00 pm - 8:40 pm

Two 25-minute rounds of zazen with kinhin (walking meditation) between each round, followed by a chanting service. This is an in-person event that will also be streamed on Zoom.

In speaking on the practice of chanting, Robert Aitken Roshi said, “The concentration of the assembly in chanting is a very powerful thing. If we can join with that concentration, then the mind is stilled.”

Philip Kapleau Roshi added a deeper perspective: “Mind is unlimited. Chanting when performed egolessly has the power to penetrate visible and invisible worlds.”

Chanting is a powerful and invaluable practice at our center, one we are emphasizing more as we move towards our annual Rohatsu sesshin, during which we chant daily. This is an excellent opportunity for you to engage in chanting more fully, either in preparation for sesshin or simply to experience its profound effects.

We are holding two scheduled evening chanting services this November. There will be two rounds of zazen followed by the chanting service. We hope you can join us for one or both of these opportunities to let go and flow into the practice.

Service 1: Thursday, November 6

Service 2: Tuesday, November 11
